Day 11

Ushuaia  •
Time to say goodbye. Or: Until we meet again!

Day 10

Drake Passage  •
A last sea day. Time to process the plethora of impressions we gained during the previous days. Unforgettable memories that will accompany us. Many enriching conversations we had on this voyage. But not to forget the inspiring moments of silence in which we soaked in this unique environment: a natur...

Day 9

Drake Passage  •
A "Drake Lake", only gentle movements of the ship were reminding us of being on a ship. A full day of onboard program kept us busy; many of us hunting penguins during a scavenger hunt.

Day 8 - afternoon

Telefon Bay  •
After lunch a second landing for this day awaited us, still located on Deception Island. We headed to Telefon Bay where we had the option of an easy landing with a nice lookout point or a second option, a difficult hike around the ridge of a volcanic crater. Both landings provided us with magnificen...

Day 8 - morning

Whaler's Bay  •
Before sunrise we started our exploration of Whaler's bay, located on Deception Island. The entire island is a still active volcano. Historic artefacts from the whaling and the research era were still visible, but fur seals had taken over most of the bay, challenging us to find a way up to Neptun's...

Day 7

Spert Island  •
After picking up the campers from Portal Point in the early morning, we continued our way up North, arriving at Spert Island after lunch. A zodiac cruising took us in between narrow passages of majestic rocks and icebergs. One of the highlights was driving through a rock arch. Some penguins were jum...

Day 6

Portal Point  •
Landing on another landing site located on the Antarctic continent, we explored the surroundings. From land and when cruising with the zodiacs we could see many humpback whales, sometimes even from very closeup. Finally, the wind conditions allowed the first two kayaking groups to go out paddling. A...

Day 5

Orne Harbour  •
The early morning brought a wakeup call for the campers at Damoy point before the ship continued its way through beautiful Paradise Bay up to Orne Harbour. Orne is situated on the actual Antarctic continent. A steep hike in serpentines up the hill brought us to a colony of chinstrap penguins. A lot...

Day 4

Lemaire Channel, Peltier Channel and Damoy Point  •
We arrived in Antarctica! Icebergs and ice flows were floating next to the ship. We sailed through the Lemaire Channel in the morning, famous for its beauty of mountains and glaciers that rise steeply out of the water. Humpback whales swam close to the ship. The afternoon was filled with zodiac crui...

Day 3

Drake Passage  •
Another day on the Drake Passage, but today with rather calm seas. The onboard program with workshops and lectures prepared us for our arrival.

Day 2

Drake Passage  •
A rough start on the Drake passage awaited us during the night and in the first half of the day, colloquially referred to as "Drake shake". During the night waves reached a height of 6-7 meters. Nevertheless, the anticipation of what was to come grew with every hour we travelled further South.

Day 1

Ushuaia  •
Sunny Ushuaia greeted us gently before we boarded our new home for the next 10 days, the MS Roald Amundsen. We sailed through the Beagle channel in a calm evening atmosphere with several birds flying along.
