Our first sea day carried us boldly into the legendary Drake Passage, where the ocean introduced itself with rolling swells and a reminder that Antarctica must be earned.
Between moments on deck scanning for albatrosses and petrels gliding effortlessly over the waves, our guests settled into expedition life — collecting our signature HX expedition jackets, mastering binocular techniques, and attending the all-important IAATO briefing that officially prepares our guests for stepping ashore on the White Continent.
The day was a lively blend of inspiration and preparation: kayaking briefings, photography tips, science presentations, and a warm Captain’s Welcome that set the tone for the adventure ahead. As the ship rose and fell to the rhythm of the Drake, some embraced the 'Drake Shake', while others perfected the art of walking in zig-zags, and all of us began to feel the thrill of heading south toward the ice.
