A splendid day. We did our first landing in Antarctica on a tiny Island called Detaille Island. It was an old British Base from 1956 to 1959 with a hut which we were able to step inside and look around. It was historically fascinating to see how the men lived in such a hostile environment all year round while conducting scientific work. Back on board we had lectures on biodiversity from Rudolf and another photography session. We also had a very moving lecture from Jane on the history of the sledge dogs in Antarctica. Today was the day for the kayak and camping briefings for those interested.
