Things got serious today because Expedition Leader Tomski had told us that we were heading South, below the Antarctic Circle and today we began the biosecurity procedures we would adopt for the rest of our voyage. Our outdoor boots were issued and we learned the best way to ensure that for each trip ashore, we would not inadvertently take any biological material. We also vacuumed our clothes and learned zodiac boat safety rules. We also had our first penguin lecture from ornithologist George.
