After visiting Signy, we spent another day at sea, however the early morning offered yet another exciting and rare opportunity. Guests were encouraged to go outside and observe the stunning iceberg A23A, the largest in the world. The rest of the day was passed in pleasant relaxation, as guests enjoyed the lectures and activities provided on board by the expedition team.

Our first stop in Antarctica was at Half Moon Island. Here, the morning started with a thrill, as guests were able to sight a lone Emperor Penguin during their Zodiac ride to the landing site. Guests also spent the morning watching Chinstrap Penguins traverse their so-called ‘Penguin Highway’ across the island. In the afternoon, we visited Deception Island, the caldera of an active volcano. Here, guests explored the fascinating Whalers Bay, and the ruins of an old whaling station, whilst many others also took a hike up to the windy ‘Neptune’s Window. The day closed with a sighting of Orcas!
