Double operations today, as the team pulled out all the stops to ensure we enjoyed a fully action-packed day. Cruising around the Orne Islands in the Gerlache Strait gave us our first sightings of chinstrap penguin rookeries. Landing on the northern edge of Ronge Island, we clambered over the rocky shoreline and onto the snow-covered slopes. Climbing up to a viewpoint, we were greeted by nesting Gentoo penguins—some guarding eggs, others already caring for chicks—as well as spectacular panoramic views over the Gerlache Strait and Anvers Island. In the evening, we sailed down the Neumayer Channel toward Port Lockroy, and a lucky few had the opportunity to go ashore at Dorian Bay to camp for the night.
