Shortly after waking up, we entered yet another world: Deception Island, a volcano that is still active today, where we landed at Whaler's Bay, a former whaling station. Steaming clouds rose from the black beach, and the volcanic activity here is undeniable. At the same time, lightly snow-covered mountains surrounded us, and even the gentoo penguins seemed eager to explore the slightly warmer waters of this volcano. Those of us who were brave enough plunged into the 4 degrees Celsius cold waters in our swimwear.
