In the afternoon, we approached Smeerenburg hoping to land near the walrus colony, but the day had other plans. A Polar Bear had claimed the area, and though we couldn't land for safety reasons, we were treated to an unforgettable sighting from the ship. It was our first bear of the trip and a moment of true Arctic magic.
