After departing Stornoway in the afternoon, we made our way toward the Shiant Isles, arriving around 19:00—just in time to enjoy the golden light of sunset washing over the cliffs and sea. The conditions were calm and clear, perfect for an evening of wildlife watching from the decks of Spitsbergen.

As we approached the islands, we were treated to views of thousands of seabirds wheeling through the air and resting on the steep cliffs—puffins, guillemots, razorbills and even sea eagles. In the waters below, curious seals bobbed at the surface, watching us just as closely as we watched them.

The wildlife sightings didn’t stop there. On the way to the Shiants, a few lucky guests spotted a group of orcas cruising through the waves—a thrilling and rare sight. And as we lingered near the islands, we also spotted two sea eagles soaring overhead, their wide wings catching the last light of the day.

It was a peaceful and awe-inspiring evening, one that reminded us of just how rich and alive these remote waters truly are.
