We arrived early in the Patagonian port of Puerto Madryn to bright sunshine and clear skies—a beautiful welcome to this coastal city. From here, guests set out on a variety of excursions to explore the surrounding landscapes, wildlife, and culture. Some ventured across the vast Valdés Peninsula by bus, where visits to the Magellanic Penguin colony at Estancia San Lorenzo and the bustling Sea Lion colony at Estancia San Guillermo offered memorable wildlife encounters. Along the way, the open steppe provided plenty to spot—hundreds of Guanacos roamed the plains, while Maras, Armadillos, and Rheas made occasional appearances.
Others chose a cultural outing with the Welsh heritage tour, diving into the history of Welsh immigration in the region. Some took to the water in search of marine life, while many stayed in town to enjoy walking tours, sample local flavours, and learn more about Puerto Madryn’s unique cultural mix. It was a full and sunny day of discovery—our first step back into the world beyond Antarctica, yet still brimming with wonder.
