Onwards we rolled, across an undulating emerald ocean, under the canvas of an azure sky, peppered with wisps of inchoate cloud. Rich rays of sunshine continued to bathe us in warmth as we ventured into the east. Briefings and introductions were the order of the day, as our guests got to know not only each other, but also the diverse members of the expedition team. New friendships crystallised under the benevolent austral sun, and excitement thrummed in the air for the promise of the following day.

On this day, we visited two of the most beautiful islands in the Falklands archipelago. In the morning, we landed on New Island, where guests took a stroll through rolling green hills to reach a colony of Rockhopper penguins and Albatrosses. Of particular interest was the ‘penguin highway’ which the birds traversed in order to reach the ocean. The fascinating museum was also popular. In the afternoon, many guests hiked across the rugged landscape of West Point (while some took an exciting ride in a Land Rover), to finally reach a secluded colony of rockhoppers and albatrosses.
