The expedition spirit had fully taken charge of the ship as we went searching for the sea ice edge in George VI Sound. But first, it was time to take the polar plunge! Brave and intrepid explorers braved the cold waters of Antarctica and went for a dip off the tender pit expedition boats! After warming up with hot chocolate and a trip to the sauna, it was time to push southward!

As we travelled further and further south, we encountered icebergs, brash ice, and an abundance of snow petrels in their preferred ice-covered habitat. As we reached the ice edge at 69.9 degrees south, and attempted a sea ice landing, an amazing animal emerged – an emperor penguin! One individual was observed far into the sea ice, but as we turned around and continued on our journey, another one was seen very close to the ship on an iceberg, giving everyone on board the chance to see this incredible creature.
