In the afternoon, we landed at Petermann Island, greeted by a thriving gentoo penguin colony – and its unmistakable 'eau de penguin'! The snow was criss-crossed with penguin highways, moulting adults stood looking delightfully dishevelled, and energetic 'teenaged' penguins practiced their flipper skills in the shallows. Nature delivered high drama when a leopard seal caught a penguin in the bay, while seabirds hovered for leftovers in a vivid lesson on the Antarctic food web.

Meanwhile, kayakers explored the icy coastline as our science boat deployed a Secchi disk and CTD, measuring chlorophyll, salinity, and temperature – blending wild encounters with hands-on polar research.

The evening brought energy of a different kind with the lively HX Foundation auction in the Explorer Lounge, where spirited bidding and generous donations supported meaningful projects across the regions we explore – proving that even at the end of the world, community makes a difference.
