This afternoon our guests had their first landing at Petermann Island. They didn't have to venture far from the landing site to see some the islands inhabitants up close as there were plenty of gentoo penguins and also a few Adélie penguins to see. We also saw an elephant seal hauled-out on the rocks close to the landing site. It was a sometimes-challenging walk up on the snow and also on the rocks, but the views and the wildlife made it all worth it. Later that evening, shortly after 9pm, there was an announcement that quite a few whales were spotted around the ship. It happened to be many humpback whales lunge feeding around the ship. That coupled with a fantastic sunset toward the continental side of Antarctica made for a terrific end to a great day.
