On awakening, we were here—Antarctica! Finally, the adventure was real. Breakfast was enjoyed as we sailed south through the Gerlache Strait to Paradise Bay and the Argentine Brown Station, the site of our first landing on the continent. If we weren’t setting foot on shore, we were in the small boats, cruising around the bay and exploring the shorelines for seals. A pair of feeding humpbacks ignored us all morning as they gorged themselves on krill. Some lucky guests even participated in collecting samples to support research in Antarctica and the Fjordphyto project. A great first day in the Great White Land.
