Today we had some authentic Antarctic weather! The wind howled and the snow blew, - – and we went out and explored anyway! After sailing through the narrow passage of Neptune's Bellows we entered the caldera of an active volcano. The black volcanic rocks in contrast with the white snow and stormy ocean created an otherworldly atmosphere that was very different than anywhere else we'd seen on our voyage so far. We went ashore at Telefon Bay, where we saw a mother Weddell seal nursing her calf and some curious gentoo penguins waddling about. After getting everybody back on board and warming up, we sailed through Neptune’s Bellows again and enjoyed seeing chinstrap penguins nesting on shore.
