Today saw the ship visit Disko Island itself. First the ship stopped for some zodiac cruising along the impressive basaltic cliffs, evidence of the volcanic origin of the island. The ship then proceeded to the town of Qeqertarsuaq, meaning big island. The visit was delayed by the strong northerly winds but eventually the tenders succeeded in landing on the pier and the town visit could begin. Some learnt the traditional Greenlandic polka dance, others met the sled dogs and their puppies and others embarked on a short hike to the waterfall found beyond the western edge of the settlement.
