Later in the evening, we reached Moffen Island, just above 80° North. Known for its resident walrus colony, the island greeted us with the unforgettable sight of these massive, social animals hauled out on the narrow shoreline. From the outer decks, we had excellent views—not only of the walruses but also of the waves crashing gently against the pebbled coast. The evening light added to the atmosphere, casting a soft glow over the Arctic landscape. This marked our northernmost point so far, and as we stood outside taking it all in, we were reminded of how remote and wild this region truly is. It was a fitting way to close another remarkable day in Svalbard, with our thoughts now turning to the next chapter of the voyage: the edge of the ice.
