In the afternoon, we repositioned slightly southwest to reach the dramatic landing site of Gnålodden. Towering bird cliffs greeted us, alive with the sounds and sights of thousands of nesting seabirds—kittiwakes, guillemots, and others soaring overhead or clinging to narrow ledges. The energy of the place was palpable, with life bursting from every crevice.
We also had the chance to visit the historic trappers’ cabin nestled below the cliffs, once used by Wanny Woldstad—the first female trapper to overwinter in Svalbard. Her remarkable story added a human dimension to this wild and remote setting. With calm conditions and spectacular views all around, this landing was a perfect mix of nature and history, closing our day on a truly memorable note.
