This day was an adventure filled with spontaneity. In the morning, we had the opportunity to view the highly protected nature reserve of Moffen Island, located in Svalbard’s high north. Walruses were spotted hauled out on the shore, while gulls circled overhead. Later in the afternoon, we reached our highest northerly latitude of 80 degrees and 26 minutes. To celebrate this milestone, guests were treated to a delicious cup of hot chocolate - complete with a little extra dash of liquid courage - as we sat in the boundless, freezing ocean, surrounded by ice.
