We started the morning with a small boat cruising in Hercules Bay in pure sunshine and very calm conditions. It was breathtakingly beautiful to see all the wildlife in this little bay. Fur seals, elephant seals, gentoo penguins and the star of the morning was the macaroni penguin, which is spotted quite rarely. We spent the afternoon in Grytviken, where we visited the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton and explored the remains of the first whaling station in South Georgia which was active from 1904 to the 1960s. Some of us went on a hike and some others joined the guided walk in Grytviken. In the late evening, we joined Sandra's storytelling about the adventures of Mrs Chieppy, the cat that joined the Endurance.
