Our first stop in Svalbard brought us to the stunning Kongsfjorden and the small research town of Ny-Ålesund. This remote settlement is the northernmost community in the world. As we strolled through the town, we absorbed its rich history, from its early days as a mining hub to its role in Arctic exploration. At the heart of Ny-Ålesund stands a bust of the renowned Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who used this very town as a base for his legendary expeditions toward the North Pole.
