Whales, wind, and wide eyes! The journey to Unga Village was a little bumpy, to say the least. The Gulf of Alaska tends to mean business in these late summer days. However, fog mixed with rain and wind didn’t stop us from an exciting landing at the abandoned village of Unga. The last inhabitants left over fifty years ago, but remnants of their lives remain etched into the landscape. We were all a little wet and windblown, but it’s almost guaranteed that this landing was a highlight of the trip, based on the number of smiling faces on shore!
